Google Pixel Watch: Delayed October Update Brings Major Changes
Google has typically rolled out updates for the Pixel Watch on a monthly basis, most of which have been standard security patches or minor OS updates. However, in October, a much-anticipated update was postponed and is finally being released this month. The delay came after Google paused the Wear OS 5 rollout in September due to a series of unexpected crashes. Since then, Google has worked to address these issues, and the company is confident that this latest update will deliver a stable experience for Pixel Watch 1 and Pixel Watch 2 users.
What’s New in This Update?
In addition to Wear OS 5, Google’s update for the Pixel Watch will include enhanced camera controls and some intriguing tweaks to the Pixel Recorder app, both of which will be available via the Play Store. Pixel Watch users will receive a notification when the update is ready to install, so there’s no need to manually check for it.
This release also marks the first update for the Pixel Watch 3 since its debut, which will include necessary bug fixes and security improvements. All Pixel Watch models will eventually be updated to version AW2A.241105.012, although timing may vary based on the carrier and device.
What’s Next for Pixel Watch Updates?
For the first time, Pixel Watch users are facing an extended three-month gap before the next software update, scheduled for March 2025. This break is unusual, as updates have typically been delivered monthly, except during major OS upgrades like the transition from Wear OS 3 to Wear OS 4. However, a slower release cycle could be beneficial, as it might allow Google to dedicate more time to testing and refining major updates.
What to Expect in March 2025
The timing for the next update aligns with Google’s March Feature Drop, which promises to introduce significant enhancements. Alongside known updates, such as the Android 15 QPR2 beta, we can expect new features, expanded functionality, and surprises that improve how the Pixel Watch integrates with the Android ecosystem.
