Other features of this true powerhouse include GPS with A-GPS support and geo-tagging for photos, Wi-Fi, the stunning 16GB of onboard memory, plus a microSD slot. If that feature pack doesn't grab your attention, hardly anything will.

LIVE CAMERA..

Nokia N96 has a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics and powerful dual LED flash. It also records video in VGA resolution at 30 fps.The connectivity set sports Wi-Fi b/g with UPnP support, microUSB v2.0, DVB-H class C, a 3.5mm stereo headphone plug and Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP stereo audio.
Nokia N96 weighs 126g, and did feel a little bulky in our hands. The display however seemed on par with the Nokia N95 8GB (read: great).

SONY ERICSON....

Sony Ericsson W760 made a name for being the first Sony Ericson phone to offer an integrated GPS receiver. With a large QVGA display, stereo speakers, Media Center and the 3 megapixel camera on top, the W760 packs a nice punch. It's an exciting slider that may look no-thrills on the outside, but has all the prospects of becoming a bestseller.

Key features
Quad-band GSM support
Tri-band HSDPA
Built-in GPS receiver
3 megapixel camera with geotagging
Walkman player with Shake control and SensMe
Media center
Stereo speakers
FM radio with RDS
YouTube integration
2.2" QVGA TFT display
M2 memory card slot (1GB card included)
Stereo Bluetooth
Built-in motion sensor
Main disadvantages
No video-call camera
Camera has basic portrait interface and no autofocus
Poor legibility under direct sunlight
Integrated stereo speakers are not impressive neither in sound qiality, nor in loudness
Expected in Q2 2008 Sony Ericsson W760 may as well make this summer hotter. It's got nearly all the high-end Walkman stuff. Right from the very first moment we saw it, we were struck by the resemblance to Sony Ericsson W850. Both handsets share pretty much the same size, form factor and market positioning, so we think it's a safe bet the W760 is the true successor of W850, bringing the best of the Walkman range to the current Sony Ericsson lineup.
For starters, the W760 takes advantage of the proprietary Sony Ericsson Media Center enabling users to organize and enjoy all their multimedia files, be it music, video, photos, games or streaming content such as YouTube. The Sony Ericsson Media Center offers ease-of-use and rich functionality unmatched by current feature phones on the market.
The user experience with the Media Center is further enhanced by the built-in accelerometer that enables screen auto rotation, as well as Shake control. Speaking of multimedia, the W760 packs in the latest Walkman 3.0 player and even supports the SensMe mood recognition feature that allows creating playlists based on mood and tempo.
On top of that, you also get the benefit of the integrated GPS receiver - you can use it to geotag your photos, work out with the Tracker fitness application or use turn-by-turn navigation and Points of Interest search.
Sony Ericsson W760 will be available in three different color versions: Rocky Silver, Fancy Red, and Intense Black. We had the grey/silver one for a review. A definite thumbs-up for the 1GB memory card in the retail package, though we've seen Walkmans ship with 2-gig cards.

Economic Indicators
In order to develop the nation's monetary policy, the FOMC looks at many economic indicators. This gives the FOMC a feel for what the economy is doing and what direction it may be taking. It also looks to the The Beige Book, which is a report that summarizes comments received from businesses and other contacts outside of the Federal Reserve. This, in addition to economic indicators, forms the basis for the FOMC's monetary policy.
The Federal Reserve chairman accesses data about the economy every half hour or so when things in the economy are calm, and every 15 minutes when things aren't. This is simply to make sure nothing is happening in the economy that the chairman doesn't know about. The chairman can also tap into a network of business contacts that provide insight into a wide range of businesses, revealing who is buying what and in what amounts. By staying on top of where the economy is right now and where it is going, the Fed can project future changes and act accordingly.
Here are the economic indicators examined by the Fed:
Consumer Price Index (CPI) - This indicates the change in price for a fixed set of merchandise and services intended to represent what a typical consumer might purchase over a given period. It is compiled monthly by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. By keeping track of the rate of change in the CPI, the Fed can get an accurate measure of inflation.
Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) - The GDP is the total of all of the goods produced in the United States, regardless of who owns them or the nationality of the producers. The measurement is produced quarterly and accurately represents national output, meaning it uses real terms so inflation doesn't distort the numbers. It is used as an indicator of the performance and growth of the economy.
Housing Starts - Because housing is very sensitive to interest rates, this indicator is tells the FOMC how financial changes are affecting consumers. Housing starts are an estimate of the number of housing units that started construction in a given period. The report is produced monthly.
Nonfarm Payroll Employment - This measurement includes the total number of payroll jobs that are not in the farming business. It is produced each month by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics and also includes information about the total number of hours worked and hourly wages earned by workers. It is helpful to the FOMC as an economic indicator because it indicates the pace (or changes in the pace) of economic growth. The average hourly earnings number also shows trends in supply and demand.
S&P Stock Index - The Standard & Poor Index shows the FOMC the changes in price in a very wide variety of stock. S&P compiles the index daily. The value of watching this index as an indicator of the economy is that it often indicates the confidence consumers and businesses have in the economy. If the market is rising, then investments and spending will rise; if the market is low or falling, then investments and spending will also slow down.
Industrial Production/Capacity Utilization - This measures industrial output both by product and by industry. It is compiled by the Board of Governors each month and is useful because it tells the FOMC about the current growth of the Gross Domestic Product. By understanding the level of capacity utilization, the FOMC can understand how well resources are being utilized. All of this can indicate future changes in the rate of inflation.
Retail Sales - This is a total of all merchandise sold by retail merchants in the United States. The numbers are presented in dollar amounts, and are adjusted for seasonality but not for inflation. The U.S Department of Commerce produces this report each month. This measurement tells the FOMC how much consumers are buying. This is called the personal consumption expenditure and indicates future growth or lags in the economy.
Business Sales and Inventories - This is a measurement of the total sales and inventories for the manufacturing, wholesale, and retail sectors. This report is compiled monthly by the U.S. Department of Commerce and can be a good indicator of growth or slow downs in the economy because it shows the level of inventory and whether it is moving or not. Inventory that isn't moving indicates a future slow down; inventory that is moving may indicate an increase in future production.
Light-Weight Vehicle Sales - Because changes in car sales can account for a large portion of the change in the GDP from quarter to quarter, this measurement has to be taken into account. The report is compiled by Ward's Automotive Reports and the American Automobile Manufacturer's Association, and seasonally adjusted numbers are generated by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Bureau of Economic Affairs.
Yield on 10-year Treasury Bond - This is simply the current market rate for U.S. Treasury bonds that will be maturing in 10 years. This is good as an indicator because mortgage rates tend to follow it. Changes in mortgage rates, in turn, indicate future changes in the housing industry. Money Supply MeasuresThe Fed categorizes money based on its liquidity. It is divided into three categories: M1 - The actual cash money supply, spending money, checking accounts and currency M2 - A larger category that includes M1, small savings accounts and time deposits at banks, and money market mutual funds M3 - Larger and less liquid, including corporate CDs, etc.
M2 - Because there is often a link between the supply of money and the growth of the GDP, this measurement is yet another indicator that the FOMC looks to when making decisions about monetary policy. The report is produced by the Board of Governors weekly and monthly. Leading, Coincident, LaggingEconomic indicators are categorized as leading, coincident, or lagging. Leading indicators anticipate the direction in which the economy is going. Coincident indicators tell the Fed about the economy's current status. Lagging indicators help the Fed determine how long a downturn or upturn in the economy will last because these indicators are affected months after an upturn or downturn has begun. By studying the indicators as they fall into these categories, the Fed can determine the phase of the business cycle that the economy is in at the time. The four phases of the business cycle are:
Expansion or recovery Peak Contraction or recession Trough The categories of "leading," "coincident," and "lagging" indicate the turning points of the economy relative to the business cycle. As the economy moves from one phase to the next, these indicators change.

Smart Cards

The "smart" credit card is an innovative application that involves all aspects of cryptography (secret codes), not just the authentication we described in the last section. A Smart Card has a microprocessor built into the card itself. Cryptography is essential to the functioning of these cards in several ways:
The user must corroborate his identity to the card each time a transaction is made, in much the same way that a PIN is used with an ATM. The card and the card reader execute a sequence of encrypted sign/countersign-like exchanges to verify that each is dealing with a legitimate counterpart. Once this has been established, the transaction itself is carried out in encrypted form to prevent anyone, including the cardholder or the merchant whose card reader is involved, from "eavesdropping" on the exchange and later impersonating either party to defraud the system. This elaborate protocol is conducted in such a way that it is invisible to the user, except for the necessity of entering a PIN to begin the transaction. Smart Cards first saw general use in France in 1984. They are now hot commodities that are expected to replace the simple plastic cards most of us use now. Visa and MasterCard are leading the way in the United States with their Smart Card technologies.
The chips in these cards are capable of many kinds of transactions. For example, you could make purchases from your credit account, debit account or from a stored account value that's reloadable. The enhanced memory and processing capacity of the Smart Card is many times that of traditional magnetic-stripe cards and can accommodate several different applications on a single card. It can also hold identification information, keep track of your participation in an affinity (loyalty) program or provide access to your office. This means no more shuffling through cards in your wallet to find the right one -- the Smart Card will be the only one you need!
Experts say that internationally accepted Smart Cards will be increasingly available over the next several years. Many parts of the world already use them, but their reach is limited. The Smart Card will eventually be available to anyone who wants one, but for now, it's only available to those participating in special programs. Your financial institution will contact you directly regarding new chip-enhanced services when they're available in your area. (If you're able to participate in one of these programs, you will receive your Smart Card from your bank or credit union, credit-card issuer or bank-card association.)
How Credit Cards Work
Have you ever stood behind someone in line at the store and watched him shuffle through a stack of what must be at least 10 credit cards? Consumers with this many cards are still in the minority, but experts say that the majority of U.S. citizens have at least one credit card -- and usually two or three. It's true that credit cards have become important sources of identification -- if you want to rent a car, for example, you really need a major credit card. And used wisely, a credit card can provide convenience and allow you to make purchases with nearly a month to pay for them before finance charges kick in.
That sounds good, in theory. But in reality, many consumers are unable to take advantage of these benefits because they carry a balance on their credit card from month to month, paying finance charges that can go up to a whopping 23 percent. Many find it hard to resist using the old "plastic" for impulse purchases or buying things they really can't afford. The numbers are striking: In 1999, American consumers charged about $1.2 trillion on their general-purpose credit cards.
In this edition of stuff.dewsoftoverseas.com, we'll look at the credit card -- how it works both financially and technically, and we'll offer tips on how to shop for a credit card. (Experts say this should be a project on the scale of shopping for a car loan or mortgage!) We'll also describe the different credit-card plans available, talk about your credit history and how that might affect your card options, and discuss how to avoid credit-card fraud -- both online and in the real world.
How Stocks and the Stock Market Work
The front of the New York Stock Exchange The stock market appears in the news every day. You hear about it any time it reaches a new high or a new low, and you also hear about it daily in statements like "The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2 percent today, with advances leading declines by a margin of..."
Obviously, stocks and the stock market are important, but you may find that you know very little about them. What is a stock? What is a stock market? Why do we need a stock market? Where does the stock come from to begin with, and why do people want to buy and sell it? If you have questions like these

Exchanges and Brokers

There are three big stock exchanges in the United States:
• NYSE - New York Stock Exchange
• AMEX - American Stock Exchange
• NASDAQ - National Association of Securities Dealers A company "lists" its stock on an exchange. For example, the NYSE has about 3,000 companies listed. According to the NYSE: At the end of November, 1998, there were 3,104 companies with stock listed on the NYSE. These companies had over 236 billion shares worth a total of $10.1 trillion available for trading on the Exchange, giving the NYSE the world's largest market capitalization (in global market-value terms, the total global value of the NYSE-listed companies exceeded $12.8 trillion). Anyone who wants to buy or sell stock in any of these 3,000 or so companies goes to the New York Stock Exchange to do it. Of course, no one wants to fly to New York to buy or sell their shares. A person therefore calls a stock broker in a firm that is authorized to trade at the exchange. There are dozens of such brokerage houses, including such familiar names as Merrill Lynch, Charles Schwab and Morgan Stanley. When you call up a broker at one of these companies, he or she relays your trade to the floor of the appropriate exchange, and a representative of the company (or, more commonly, a computer representing the company) makes the trade on your behalf. You pay the broker a commission (generally $10 to $100 per trade, depending on the broker) to provide this service to you. Stocks that are not listed on an exchange are sold Over The Counter (OTC). OTC stocks are generally in smaller, riskier companies. Usually, an OTC stock is stock in a company that does not meet the requirements of an exchange. Lots More Information!

Thin & Sexy

The Sony Ericsson co. is one of the leading cell phones manufacturers in Europe. The successfully 700 and 800 series became most wanted among the citizens of Europe and Japan. Style and quality- these are the main components of all the latest Sony Ericsson products. No doubt, Sony does know how to make things better. All this concerns the new SonyEricsson creation – thin and sexy SonyEricsson z610.

The z610 is a stylish 3G (third generation) clamshell phone with the cool mirror finish and really sexy design. Z610 has no superb features like some other SonyEricsson phones but the design takes all the attention. The main design novelty of z610 is its OLED front display. It gives you a great feeling; can't even explain it. You got to see it! You don't see the display itself, it seems like information appears right on the body of the phone.

And now, all the specifications of Z 610, in all the details:
The main TFT screen has 220 x 176 resolution and 262k color depth capacity. The external OLED screen has resolution of only 128 x 36 mm, but I think it's enough to view the time, battery and network capacity. The integrated camera of z 612 works in 2 mega pixels resolution and has a 2.5 digital zoom. Moreover, with this feature you will have the possibility to take pictures and send them directly to website.

What about the music and entertainment? The z 610 has a very powerful mp3 player that supports not only MP3 format and olds-school 72 voices polyphony but also ACC, ACC+ and EACC+ music formats. Moreover the games are JAVA MIDP 2.0 powered and run in 3D. Now, that's a good piece of news for gamers.

The connectivity of z 610 is absolutely superb. The z 610 can work in UTSM 2100, GSM 900/1800/1900 wave bands. Let's hope that this super capacity doesn't have an effect on the owner's health. Moreover z 610 has Bluetooth stereo (A2DP) and USB/USB 2.0 compatibility.
The standard z 610 comes with 64 MB Memory Stick Micro but supports up to 1GB.
Z610 comes in three colors: luster black – for boys, rose pink- for girls and airy blue- for half boys' half girls)))

There is also a wide range of accessories that will help you to make your SonyEriccson z 610 differ from others. Bluetooth Headset, Desk Stand, Music Desk Stands, Travel Charger, Portable Speakers, and Bluetooth Car Handsfree set; is that enough??? Besides ALL this you can buy a Bluetooth Car Stereo Speakerphone. Unfortunately, SonyEriccson z 610 still remains a prototype, but with all this information uncovered we hope to see it in our stores sooner or later.

Watch piece for film-freaks

watches Are you a film-freak? Well, I'm aware that you are a gadget-geek, but this doesn't mean that you can't be cinema addicted.
As for me, cinema is my second passion. Fortunately, we don't lack new pictures. On the other hand, there are very few of them worth speaking about. By the way, I prefer both new and old movies. Actually, I can be proud of my collection. Moreover, my MP3 collection counts many soundtracks. You see, when listening to my favorite films soundtracks I fall into a special state that makes me feel a movie star.
And you know, very often I want to get something that is associated with my favorite pictures, a kind of accessory. Fossil is not the first company that decided to use film's popularity for its own purposes. But Fossil's brand solution has really gladdened me. I don't doubt that you've already seen the "Pirates of Caribbean". And I can have a bet that this picture is so popular because of Johnny Depp. In fact, my opinion can be mistaken, as cutie Johnny is my favorite actor. Girls, I won't believe that somebody of you doesn't like him.
What has it to do with famous watch producer? The matter is that Fossil has developed the "Pirates of Caribbean" style hi- tech wrist watch. As you can see, it features a stylish leather strap and a dial with a skull picture on it. Watchcase is made of high quality stainless steel, so, you don't have to worry about its durability. It also comes with a coin bag that is meant to remind about pirates' époque.
The only fact that both gladdens and disappoints me is that it's limited edition. Only 2000 pieces are available. Of course, I'd be happy to own one of these, but I'm afraid to be late. Its price is $115 only, so the possibility that it's out of stock is rather high.

iPod Security Device

Today it's difficult to find a gadget more popular than iPod is. What caused its popularity? Actually, to answer this question means cracking Apple's recipe for success.
Its producers are unlikely to reveal all secrets about the device. In fact it doesn't matter, unless you are going to invent something that can eclipse iPod. I think that there are two things that are really important for any customer: the item's price and quality. If a producer is able to guarantee these two aspects, he becomes a leader.
Anyway, I heard no negative comments from iPod owners. This means that everybody is satisfied with this MP3 player. At the same time I suspect this gadget is a tidbit for those looking for easy money, especially if they turn out to be music lovers. I've already reviewed a lot of MP3 player accessories, but I've never seen something like this.
What am I talking about? It's easy to guess that I'm going to present you Security device for your iPod. Have you ever felt an unexpected fear when unable to find your beloved gadget in your handbag or anywhere else? It's an awful feeling. In such moments you are able to turn over dozens of variants in your mind where it can be.
To prevent this situation Apple has developed its new iPod case that should prevent cases of thefts. The Secure-It Pod Safe is made of PolyCarbon ABS and features digit rotary combination lock. After you lock you iPod you can fasten it to your belt and continue listening to music. I think it's a good solution to keep the device in safe. Unfortunately, it doesn't feature any kind of alarm. Am I severe? May be… But I think you'll change your opinion when somebody tries to rob you of your gadget.

QDOS Genesis Portable Speaker for iPod line

This week is quite significant for all iPod addicted. Why? The fact is this week Apple Expo takes place. They've launched a few novelties and made a kind of remake of their old models. Some very cute devices, I must confess. I guess that iPod fans all over the world exult as now we have much more "fetishes" to enjoy!

But today I'd like to tell you about a QDOS. It is a portable sound system designed by Genesis especially for iPod line. It means the system works with all iPods available today (except the iPod Shuffle).

Actually, it rather looks like a soup can or coffee filter than a speaker. The device is four-way sound system comprising 4 x 3 watt speakers. It produces a 360-degree soundfield that is quite enough to enjoy your favourite music either indoors, outdoors or on-the-go.

The device is easy-to-carry, as it measures only 115mm in diameter and 85mm in height when closed and 125mm in height, weighing no more than 0.8kg.

All you need to enjoy 8 hours of high-quality sound is four AA batteries. There is a possibility to power QDOS via AC adapter when you are indoors.

QDOS has a very useful feature- it synchronises the iPod and recharges its battery when docked and running on DC power.

QDOS Genesis portable speaker is available in black and white.

Genesis is available in the UK and France now and its retail price is £ 89.99.

Actually, this one is an absolute must have for all iPod lovers like me, as this gives the possibility to share my favourite music with my friends. Now I can enjoy high-quality sound aloud and not to part with my iPod even when outdoors. A great gadget, indeed!

iPod Compatible Clothes

Happy New Year, everyone! Here we are, at the beginning of a brand new year. This might be another bridge to invention of new technologies and hence, new gadgets too.

So the past year has brought us many, many things, which we liked or disliked, but there is nothing to appear or disappear in vain: we have learned something from our mistakes and have made new useful conclusions. So may the New Year bring you not flawlessness, but only little mistakes, whose consequences you wouldn't even feel. Using the experience of such mistakes you can make big conclusions to avoid big errors.

And what I am going to bring you right now is a new collection of clothes designed for wearing when using an iPod media player. If you ask yourself why for iPod in particular, I would say that I had asked myself the same question when I heard about such clothes.

iPod Compatible Gloves - iGlovesThe first piece of garment is a pair of clothes, but not quite ordinary ones. I started to wonder, what so special is there about these gloves. The thing is that they are made especially for those people, who like working out during the cold seasons and listening to the iPod media player at the same time. The iGloves are designed in such a way, that you don't have to take them off to control your favorite music gadget.

Everything I was able to find out about this warm gizmo is that it is from a famous manufacturer of clothes for extreme sports - Marmot. Another thing I found out is that the fancy material the gloves' shell is made of is called Apex Stretch Fleece NP-850S. I don't know what it really means, but looks cool. There are any sizes available in the range between extra small (XS) and extra large (XL). The model is made in one single color, but a universal one - black.

So this fancy new technology makes it possible to manage your playlist in a cold weather without taking the gloves off and its suggested retail price for US is only $35. I don't think there should be much fuss about getting a pair of these.

Another piece of garment, also meant for having an iPod in it and it is the iPod Controlling Jacket. MY God!!! How many things they have already invented for this thing and they can't even make a break for a second!!!

This rather new thing is meant not just to keep the media gadget in safety, but it is meant to control the player remotely. So this is still a question, whether the iPod or the Jacket controlling it should be called a gadget...

iPod Controlling JacketThe thing is that the left sleeve has a five button control system, consisting of play/pause button, forward and rewind buttons, and volume up and down button. The jacket has a special pocket for the iPod for a firm holding and it is made of a waterproof material, thus you shouldn't have any problems wearing it and listening to the music during a wet weather.

My thought is that this five button control system lacks two additional buttons Next track and Prev track. You know such situations, when you actually have a playlist with all your favorite songs, but right now you want to hear this particular song and nothing else. So what you do about it? You take the iPod out of the pocket and change the track.

In order to avoid accidental track change the manufacturers have made the buttons to lock after 3 seconds of inactivity. Activation can be done by pressing and holding the forward button for 7 seconds. I think there will be some problems with inactivity thing, but this might be something like that Windows OS: they first make it and then they ask what is wrong with it.

Philips Goes Glamorous - Helped by Swarovski

Lock InLock Out
Philips and Swarovski: a team to break every girl's heart. I guess all the geeky girls will fall in love with the latest creations of this team. Philips provides the technology, Swarovski provides the stones so that every girls is satisfied (in other way!). The partners have designed a series of gadgets in two categories: USB keys and Stereo headphones. And all of these chic gadgets constitute one collection called 'Active Crystals'.

The 'Active Crystals' collection is new, it actually is not even available, YET, but I'm sure there gadgets will have some fans here and there across the world. But you imagine, that everything which has a combination of letter forming 'Swarovski' in its name, doesn't sound or look cheap... so it's not like every girl could afford herself one (including me!).

The USB keys created by Philips and Swarovski are some unique pieces of technology, no very high though, but very, I mean VERY glamorous and shiny. This is probably the most fashionist way to store you files. They'll be not only safe (they have a security password for read/write functions - didn't expect huh?!), but also comfortable! There are four different types of storage devices: Heart Ware, Heart Beat, Lock In and Lock Out.

As you see the names of the sparkling gadgets have something suggestive in them. The first two have are 1 GB luxury pendants (how many secret letter can that store?) The Lock In and Lock Out can be attached to a keychain and have the same storage ability as the first ones.

The Glamour Gadgets will get on the shop shelves in August and there is not information about their possible price yet. But my guess is you should break all the piggy banks in you house (find the codes to your daddy's safe, would be a good/bad idea too...) and see how much you still lack for buying one of those beauties.

The next series of deluxe gadgets is also part of the 'Active Crystals' collection and a product of Philips and Swarovski collaboration. These are 4 pairs of luxurious headphones.
The gadgets are made of polished metal and are embedded with chic Swarovski stones of different forms and cuts - some of which are navette and baguette.

This small sub-collection is also made of four items. There a three in-ear headphones - Amazone, Icon, Space - and headphones with a ear hook - Mirage. The Amazone version is not just a simple a pair of headphones, but one with noise isolating ear-buds on a necklace and clasp to hold an MP3 player.

All this jewelry is equipped with rubber pads to ensure good grip between the skin and headphones themselves.

The same history is here as with the USB keys: the headphones will be available for sale in August and if you've already broken all the piggy-banks in your house, including your little sister's, to buy a USB key - I'm sorry! I guess you'll have to break into a real bank now!

Katharina Ludwig Ice Jewelery Concept

kathy_ludwig_ice_jewels3in1.jpg

Here is a quite interesting concept of Katharina Ludwig – Ice Jewelery! It comes to continue the Series of Temporary Jewelery Concept, Soap Jewelery being one to equal Ice Jewelery and to rise specific interest.

While Soap Jewelery Concept appeared inspired by the gestures of washing, Ice Jewelery Concept emphasizes the water value to human existence. The designer's idea is to contrast warmth of the human body and coldness of ice.

Just the same way Soap Jewelery dissolves while cleaning yourself, Ice Jewelery melts down to delight your skin. This is where your body warmth comes to destroy the beauty expressing the supreme energy it possesses by melting the ice.

Ice Jewelery Collection includes earrings, rings, necklaces, etc. They vary in shape and design. Cubs, cup-like, oval shapes are characteristic. Also, Katharina Ludwig doesn't make quite big difference among the jewelry she uses – she combines gold and ice, silver and ice, other metals are used too. Some of the pieces are designed to catch the remaining drops of water, others allow the ice to melt directly onto the wearer.

Of course, every time the jewelery melts it will have to be recreated. Thus you can try to be the designer of your own jewelery.

The idea of melting jewelery is very sensual, but I doubt any of us would wear some at a banquet or an important meeting. This is more appropriate for a romantic date (preferably at home so that your dress wouldn't get wet in public).

Ice Jewelery Concept is very attractive because of its ephemeric existence... What if you want to keep it permanent? My idea is to replace ice with some transparent material that can give the illusion of ice! That way you'd keep the shape of your jewelery, you won't get wet and you'll be irresistible. Good luck girls! Be irresistible.

Danish and Arab Daybed by Dekka

Danish and Arab Daybed by Dekka

Have you lately thought of a comfortable and relaxing daybed? Something that will brake all the designing standards and traditions... something that is plain enough to be genial and unusual. Watch it here! Maybe the Danish and Arab Daybed from Dekka is the very embodiment of your dream.

Though, conceptually it features a totally new approach, this daybed still is made in keeping with the best design traditions of top level furniture. The roots of the Dekka's daybed go deep into Arabic traditions where asymmetrical shapes made up the very harmony. Here the asymmetry is represented by the irregular hexagon cells. The Danish influence is seen in the 'melted'' angles of the hexagons.

I find the design very interesting first of all because it is controversial. Here you'll find a soft and spongy fabric used along with polished aluminum frames (looking almost like some grating or grill). Also I was surprised about the fact that the piece combines handwork (padding is hand made by Heidi) and industrial processing at the same time.

Unlike many of the furniture concepts this daybed looks extremely minimalistic and aesthetic while providing perfect functionality and comfort. The designer (FurnID) was successful in designing an exclusive masterpiece of furniture that after all succeeds to stay artistic. It is actually a gadget for which your back will deeply thank you!

It is enough to mention that the Dekka daybed won "Bo Bedre’s Furniture Award 2007" at the Copenhagen International Furniture Fair. This piece of furniture was estimated to US $48,182 (EUR 34,000). The question is: are you ready to pay this money for the thing? I'd say the concept deserves the money, my purse would say it can't afford it.

Almost Weeble Wobble Vase

Got bored of the transparent, symmetrical vases? Tired of guessing how much water you flower needs? Let me share my delight about a great piece of invention.

Some smart guys have created a vase which takes different positions in relation to the surface it stands on. The position depends on the quantity of water the vase contains! So, when the vase tends to bound to the ground it means that your flower needs water, if it stays straight upward (sits at a 30-degree angle) then it is filled. (I wonder if it is going to fall down if all the water evaporates. It worths experimenting.)

The very vase is made of handcrafted pewter, and is perfectly balanced to make it lie down and get back to the initial position without falling. I actually haven't seen a greater visual cue to indicate when you need to add water or to keep you from overwatering your plants.

The first thing I was amazed of, when learning about this vase, was the fact that the designers who projected this vase are actually MEN! Gosh girls, are we to let men solve all our dilemmas? Well, after all it's not a bad idea at all :)! Talking about the designers, David Sweeney, Jeff Virangkabutra and Michael Korn, are their names.

The second thing that pleasantly surprised me, was the totally asymmetrical and original shape of the vase. Sharp and round shapes are perfectly combined to form a masterpiece! Besides, the metallic color is also something uncommon for vases. The color combined with the shape gives a really cosmic style to this art piece.

And lastly, we must admit it, the vase is splendid and functional! So, if you are one of those who can't keep disciplined about watering the flowers, an invention like this one can be really helpful.

Body Beautifying Device. Not Only About Losing Weight

How often do you test some devices on yourself? I bet the answer is NEVER. Because I'm just like all of you there. I don't have the bad habit to experiment when I'm not into the subject.

Lately, I have got into some vibration therapy (with a Body Beautifying Device) which is being promoted as a fitness thing for able-bodied people. Though it sounds like a really new thing it proves to be a very old therapeutic practice.

It comes that manual vibration treatment was applied to the human body from ancient times. Hindoos, and Brahmins are thought path breakers on the subject. Then followed Chinese and Greeks who probably got their knowledge from the Hindoos.

What really amazes me is the fact that it doesn't have only the effect of loosing weight as it is usually promoted in the modern world! It does far more if correctly applied. Today, the treatment based on vibration can solve nerve problems; massages organs; revitalizes muscles; etc. I've even read about the influences of the vibra-massage traveling from front to back (smart: direction of the sinus longitudinalis and of the sinus transversalis), which due to nerve frictions and vibrations successfully treat diseases of the central nervous system.

The massager I use (photo) promotes mechanical vibra-massage, which means there is no any chemical, thermal, or electrical vibration involvement. It comes naturally without additional efforts and useless movements. All you have to do is to stand on the massage plate, choose the right mode and listen to music (which syncs with the vibration modes).

I need to be honest! I took this device for the purpose of losing weight and keeping it off ...but the vibration massage proved to be far more efficient in enhancing my body state entirely, complexly. When I figured out the idea, I realized that it is not always about Body Beautifying only, it is about health too!

Oh, and its funny to feel your legs, waist, abdomen and buttocks vibrating! It's like you are turned inside out. You feel all your muscles, organs, ...everything moving in unison and obeying some unknown power.

The best way to make it work is to listen to your body! It will tell you which of the modes to choose to make it efficient. The built-in microcomputer will help you adjust the intensity (500t/m), speed (20 levels) and degree (8 degrees) of the movement. The control panel is quite easy to operate and has membrane buttons and bright display.

Such a device holds up to 150 kg, so you should not be concerned about the ability of the foot-plate to work your body. Besides, such massagers as mine are usually provided with anti slip hand grips which you may use until you fill comfortable with the 'shaking earth'. You can also set the timer from 1 to 10 minutes of working time. Add here – low power consumption, low level of noise and environment friendly materials -- and you'll get a perfect massager for home use.

Swarovski Morpheus Chandelier

Swarovski Morpheus Chandelier is a true masterpiece! I'd even say that it is the culmination of the Swarovski Chandelier Series. The great idea is that it makes a designer out of you! How? Quite simple, it allows the viewer shape his/her own chandelier out of the light reflections it creates.

For soul:The light reflections play an imaginary game with each of the viewer! While you move it changes its appearance. You may see a circle, which in a second turns into a square, then a couple of seconds latter it makes on an infinity sign. All this happens very smoothly, almost unobserved, and if you are watchful enough your eyes will catch the shapes between. Very much like a kaleidoscope!

The most striking is that the optical illusion it creates, dims the edges of the real shape, which finally make you feel like you have a light film of fog or a cloud hanging out there on your celling.

I can't even decide which one of the Swarovski chandeliers I like the most - Swarovski Nest Chandelier for its totally overwhelming shape, or Swarovski Morpheus Chandelier for its impressive effects.

Technically: The Swarovski Morpheus Chandelier features permutations of ten-foot diameter and 16,000 crystals reflecting Morpheus light. This striking construction works due to the use of servo-motors and lead cables applying pressure to a flexible spring steel assembly. There are six motors arranged in a star configuration. The motors are attached to six points on the perimeter that pull to create the shape of the chandelier. (Sounds alien!!! But it's worth knowing).

By the way, the designer who got this crazy and at the same time striking idea is Yves Behar. Remember this name, because my feeling is that he will surprise us again! Waiting for some ideas that won't let us indifferent!

Veronica Vail's Handheld Digital Wallet

digital_walletpub.jpg

Do you already have a personal strategy of saving or spending money? Well, if not get a personal assistant! Namely a product that promised to solve the portable-storage problem once and for all. Let me introduce you the Handheld Digital Wallet by Veronica Vail.

Call it a planner, an organizer, a manager – what ever you want. This handheld digital wallet is actually an efficient aid in financial planning.

It is able to track your earning and spending which makes it possible to manage the very strategy of saving or spending. Besides, you can monitor your account(s), track your investments and make payments right from the device. The Digital Henddeld Wallet houses a universal payment card. So you are the one enabled to easily make payments anywhere. The device is equipped with a security system that requires finger print identification in case you want to access financial information and make any payments or investments.

Advantages (seen with a naked eye):

  • no need of cash, checks and credit cards
  • you are protected against losing cash, credit card forgery
  • no bank trips

So how exactly would you like your digital wallet? Let's say it should be:
Extensible. This means it should be able to manage all of your payment instruments, and be inter-operate with multiple payment protocols.
Client-Driven. Which means your digital wallet can't be invoked by vendors. You as a client are the only one to invoke your digital wallet. Otherwise it will seem like someone reaches for your 'physical' wallet in your pocket.
Generalized. The interfaces should be easy to use regardless of the financial operation you are involved in. This also means that your digital wallet should have an up-to-date software that updates one in a while keeping pace with the latest payment instruments. Besides, your digital wallet should conform to different environments (devices, browsers, etc.).

If this handheld wallet pleases you with its specs, then make your choice!

PS. The only one dream would be to get an alarm system or an electrical discharge (like an invisible fence for dogs) whenever I overspend! :)

iLight – How Much Apple's It Has?

ilight1.jpg

It seams to me that lately the very trend is to own any gadget that bears the Apple logo or the "i" meme. People are just crazy about it and designers take advantage of the mass addition! Why not, if this satisfies both parts? :)

The millions of Apple fans will certainly enjoy the iLight Fashlight, but the truth is that the very concept doesn't actually belong to Apple. Behind this fancy looking gizmo stands the designer Miyoshimasato (sounds Japanese). Why all crazy and innovative things are made by as a rule by Japanese? The design seams pretty simple and austere. Besides the features are not something unknown to the market.

How it works? A touch interface with multiple inputs makes it a typical Apple 'piece'. You can easily turns on the light with a single touch. Then, tap it again and the light turns off. You also can increase or decrease the luminance, flicking your finger forwards and backwards. Use double tap to lock it and to prevent it from turning on accidentally. Watch the Apple logo! It indicates the battery status. This flashlight do not use replaceable battery, instead it recharges via USB. What I liked about this flashlight was the fact that a single tap on the Apple logo turns on the emergency light ‘HELP’ in morse code.

Features:

  1. Slender, slim profile
  2. Smooth light output
  3. Touch control
  4. No AA, or any others batteries, it is powered by USB
  5. DMX 512 controller controllability
  6. Designed for both interior use
  7. Energy-efficient technology
Hypnotica_img.jpg

I must say it reminds me of iLight Technologies creation that offers accent lighting solutions. It is based on the latest LED-technology to solve lighting challenges in new ways. This is a compromise between technology and design. They are also used straight of field bent, the only difference is that they are available in three temperatures of whites or seven vibrant colors.

This "Apple looking product" (due to the slim slick body, lack of any switches and buttons) will probably never get into the mass production! (This is my opinion.) But it will probably make a fine design accessory for any hi-tech decorated room.

A Stockholm Bar's Ceiling

barceiling.jpg

This is not actually an advertising review of a bar! I just wanted to share impressions on a really gorgeous place I have the chance to visit in Stockholm. Still, for those who want to see it by themselves know that it is situated in the in central Stockholm, intimate 65 sqm bar. The bar is pretty small having only 5 tables, but the great thing about it that it is open day and night. As I assumed it is not designed for sitting as it has a vast space for dancing.

But let's get back to the issue I liked the most in this bar and the cause I started to write about it. The Ceiling! This is first you see and admire upon entering the bar! The endless mirror bubbles come over the entire ceiling making it look like a fairy dream. They look like huge drops of water that are ready to drop just any second.

Beside the romantic part about this ceiling there is a "practical" one too. The mirror bubbles allow you spying on everyone else. An activity that seam to be more of a men's pleasure! :-)) So, ladies, be careful you are spied on while serving your cocktails! I bet men would like the floor to be of the same design.

The mirror walls are an organic continuation of the mirror ceiling. Together they create an illusion of infinity and trippy kaleidoscopic effects. Even the bathroom comes to complete the picture – strands of fiber optical threads are reflected on the ceiling and walls, creating an endless sea of illuminated grass.

I guess the main purpose of the designers was to show an organic and playful combination of glass, mirror and light. I think it is not accidentally that the Electric Dreams is the actual designer of the project. The graphics, the exterior glass illustrations, and the urban forest wallpaper were made by specialists at dizelsate.com.

I have to mention that the bar contains a lot of design elements known to the entire world. Such as, Joel Degermark's Cluster Lamps for Moooi which are placed above each table, each with a different set-up of light bulbs. You'll also find that the wall framing the bar interior forms a graphic element as well as a bottle stand. The vintage wooden chairs are the less fragile elements of the design. They are coated with glossy black lacquer.

This is what I was surprised of this week – something really out of my expectations!

Loopty Loop Loopita

loopita2.jpg

Probably one of the areas which will never stop to generate new ideas is the area of furniture! This is because people love furniture! They like it for comfort, they like it for originality and of course they like it to just watch how far human imagination can go.

Loopty Loop Loopita is a concept of sofa that appeared back in January 2007 and until recently it continued to have the statute of 'concept'. Now it's going into production! The design is signed by Victor Aleman who presented this spiral-looking sofa to the 2nd Concourse of Design in Hardwood that took place in Mexico City. So it comes that he took the 1st place at the encounter furniture category! Here I guess the sofa was remembered and then brought to life…

By the way incidental or not a second similar design has appeared! This one is called 'The Therapist' door and is signed by a Belgian designer - Valerie Wilms. It was presented at the MechelenMeubelen 2007 exhibition.

The question "which one of the two sofas is the original one?" still is a dilemma for simple people like me.

Ok but let's go back to the Loopita sofa! This one looks like a twisted, huge warm. It is made of wooden sections (red oak) joint together which gives it elasticity but at the same time stability which only wooden furniture can give. The Loopita is covered with high density foam which makes it extremely comfortable when sitting. I doubt I'd call it an orthopedic bed or a therapist bed, but as a whole it looks comforting. The two opposite ends are provided for a great floor level chaise. You can see on the picture several Loopitas joint together to form interesting modular seating arrangements.

Unfortunately, there are no mentions about the place where it can be bought or the price it will cost. But I guess it will very affordable! So, hey you - the ones who are more informed on the matter - go on, leave some comment with the information about the place and price!

Toshiba IK-HD1 is World's Smallest HDTV Camera

With vital measurements of 1-6-inches cubed and 2.3-ounces in weight, Toshiba's IK-HD1 waltzes in to easily steal the "Smallest HDTV Camera, Ever" title. Packed to the miniature eyeballs with three CCD chips, the 1K-HD1 can capture video at broadcast-quality at 1080i, but it won't be making its way to your camcorder anytime soon. The tiny marvel is actually intended for professional broadcasting, and needs to be hooked up to a rather sizable control unit, which can be placed up to 90-feet away. It appears Mr Professional Broadcasting wins again. Dammit.

3DConnexion's 3D SpaceNavigator Mouse For Laptops

Big week for 3DConnexion, a Logitech company, as they update their twisting/rotating desktop SpaceNavigator mouse for laptops. We're not sure what differentiates this laptop version from the desktop version (which also works with Second Life), but it's got a "new cap design" and is smaller than the desktop version. It also looks quite nice in a knob sort of way. [BusinessWire]

Ivyskin Xylo T2 Reflect Chrome iPhone Case == Touchscreen Your iPhone Through a Hard Shell

Putting an iPhone in a case is still not something I'd do or recommend as necessary, but if you must protect your precious, here's a case that claims to protect your touchscreen with a layer of plastic, but also allow you to finger the lcd just the same. It, of course, involves some patent-pending tech which sounds like hocus pocus to me. Here's what Mike Wissman, VP of Ops for Ivyskin, gave me as an explanation.

2.jpeg

The case uses a patent pending design called Surface Xylo Wave (SXW)© technology passes ultrasonic waves that pass over the touch screen panel and transfer them to the iPhone's screen without any interferences. When the panel is touched, a portion of the wave is absorbed. This change in the ultrasonic waves registers the position of the touch event and sends this information to the iPhone's screen for processing.

Entry-Level DSLR Battlemodo: Canon Rebel XSi vs. Sony Alpha a350 vs. Nikon D60 vs. Olympus E-420

This month, four eagerly awaited cameras all hit the market with a big ole thud: Canon's EOS Digital Rebel XSi, Sony's Alpha a350, Nikon's D60 and Olympus' E-420. They are not all evenly matched on paper, as you will see, and they certainly vary in price. But what's different about them, really? They are all aimed at people who wake up one morning and realize their point-and-shoot's pics are pretty crappy, people who don't consider themselves photographers but wouldn't mind spending a little money (under $1,000) to put those high-school photography lessons to practice with a decent body-and-lens kit. I decided to fiddle around with the four hottest new entry-level DSLRs and see what I could see.

Toshiba's under-2-lb. Portege R500 will get its SSD boosted to 128GB, though at a still undeclared but likely super high price, says UK's Register. The machines get a bit of a chip upgrade, too, from Intel's 1.2GHz U7600 Core 2 Duo to a 1.33GHz U7700. The R500 is, to my knowledge, the lightest PC with an internal DVD burner, at least in the US market, but I can't back it 100% because of a little problem called Vista.

It's great to see Toshiba jacking up the specs on it to make it a total badass in the thin, light and fast category—with, ahem, 3 USB ports, and in addition to that, a FireWire port and a PC card slot. But Toshiba is still only offering Vista Business on these guys, and when I tested an R500 early on, it was Vista that totally stunk up the machine.

Toshiba's US site still shows the model capped at 64GB (for $3,000), but we assume it will be updated soon. When you do, Toshiba, please offer XP as an option. Then again, you never know how many of the issues were resolved by SP1.

First Asus Eee PC 900 Review (Verdict: A Bit More Comfy)

CNET UK has just published the first review of the upcoming £329 Asus PC 900—the 8.9" version of the Eee packing a 20GB SSD. Their verdict? While still disappointed by the unchanged keyboard, CNET appreciated the bigger screen and addition of multitouch on the trackpad. Also of note: even though the 900 includes a whole 1GB of RAM, the processor is the same Celeron model we had in the original Eee. CNET was hoping to see an Atom stuck in there for more power and battery life. So overall, despite the extra RAM and storage, CNET sees the upgrades as a bit superficial. Given our long-term impressions of the Eee, superficial was a good place for Asus to start.

Panasonic has released the all new Panasonic Toughbooks (laptops) that are as tough as Ford’s Trucks. The new models of the Panasonic Toughbooks are CF-W5, CF-T5 and CF-Y5 which names are pretty strange and “tough” to remember. Nevertheless, the most interesting fact about this “Tough” laptops are they actually has passed the Military Specifcations drop-test. However, the features and specifications of the new Panasonic Toughbooks aren’t that cool.

The PS3 Laptop: from Ben Heck to Engadget with love

Rewind back to late 2006. The PS3 was launching alongside the Wii and geeky editors like ourselves were having a field day. We'd already managed to convince our good pal Ben Heck to build another Xbox 360 laptop and the Wii Laptop, so it was only a matter of time before we started brainstorming on how the hell we could possibly fit a PS3 into a "portable" enclosure. That's the part where Ben stepped up his game and worked his magic -- on and off for almost a year and a half -- to build... the PS3 Laptop!

The essential specs:
Original backwards compatible 60GB model
17-inch LCD HDTV screen: 720p
HDMI-DVI connection (same as last Xbox 360 laptop)
Built-in keyboard, USB ports, stereo speakers, headphone jack
Size: 17 x 13.75 x 3-inches
Weight: 16 pounds!
You want this one of a kind piece of kit for your very own, PlayStation fanboys? You got it. We're auctioning this thing for charity real soon, so watch out for details (we'll also have some video of the PS3 Laptop in action on the site tomorrow). And, naturally, big ups to our pal Ben Heck for the long hours and love he put into this thing. The man is truly a hero of ours, so be sure to hit up his site to check out his other projects, as well as the other instructional stuff he's done here on Engadget.

Solar Chargers

There are solar chargers for cell phones, iPods, even laptops. These are clearly ideal if you are going somewhere where there is no power, and you need to recharge your favorite electroic gadget.

What about home use however? If you charge your device from solar, does the panel embody more energy to make it than you will even save from the grid? What about using the grid at night when demand is low and the devices need power anyways? I think my power comes from Nuclear during the night, so it would make no sense for me to get solar chargers, but I find it very interesting, and maybe helpful for others.

Of course, if you have them for when you can't get access to the grid, and you use them at home, you are saving energy (or really, generating your own).

Most of those solar chargers don't have a big enough of a panel to be useful unless you have 12 hours of full sunlight. I'm looking at solar charging my "toys". I'm going to buy a small panel and mount it on the roof, then a small charge controller and SLA battery. During the days while I'm out at work the solar will charge that SLA battery then when I come home I plug in my cell phone or whatever and charge from the energy stored in the SLA battery, this way the cell phone charger can have enough power to fully charge the phone weather or not the sun goes behind a cloud. I would have it working now but the price of the panels has went way up recently.
